K.I.D.S.
In Wisconsin, the child support enforcement agency is under
the umbrella of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. K.I.D.S.
provides a website (http://www.dwd.state.wi.us/bcs/default.htm)
where you may view payments and balances, sign up for direct deposit,
get tax information for parents, and find out what is new in child support
law. The website is interpreted to English, Spanish, and Hmong.
What is KIDS?
KIDS (Kids Information Data System) is Wisconsin's child support computer
network system. In 1999, it processed more than $870 million in support.
KIDS assists child support staff with collecting support, establishing
paternity, and providing custodial parents with better and faster information.
KIDS For Custodial Parents
KIDS automatically produces required court documents, legal notices, payment
coupons, account balances, and checks other state data systems for information
about parents who do not pay or have stopped paying their child support.
Custodial parents receive their child support payments accurately and
more timely. Custodial parents may access account information through
an interactive voice response telephone system or the website, KIDS Information
Line. The KIDS Information Line receives more than 400,000 calls every
month.
KIDS Provides More Uniformity
KIDS alerts workers to the next appropriate action to take for a case
to meet federal timelines for enforcement activities. Employers cooperating
with KIDS has facilitated collection of approximately $618 million in
support payments this year.
